The LanguageWire Platform allows you to export various data, such as an overview of your Vouchers or Job Confirmations. The exported data is saved to a CSV file (Comma Separated Values), which is a text-based file where the data is separated by commas.
On Windows PCs, CSV files (.csv) look like Excel files, and the file icon is the same as for normal Excel files (.xlsx). If you double-click on a CSV file, Windows will launch Excel to open the file using the regional settings from your computer. Regional settings are parameters used to format numbers, decimals, digital grouping, etc. If English is selected in your regional settings, the CSV file will open easily without formatting issues. However, if your regional settings are not set to English, formatting issues will occur when opening the CSV file.
Do not change the regional settings on your computer, as this may have undesired consequences.
Instead, use the following solution to fix formatting issues for your CSV file:
Open a blank workbook in Excel. Click on Data, followed by From Text/CSV.
Select your CSV file, and a new window will open in Excel showing a preview of the CSV file import. Click on the Delimiter dropdown menu and select Comma if it is not already selected. Then click on Transform Data. It will open an advanced preview of the CSV file in a Power Query Editor window.
Click on File > Options and settings > Query Options:
In the Query Options window, click on Regional Settings and select English (United States) as the Locale.
This setting only affects how Excel interprets the CSV file. It does not impact your entire workbook, Excel as a whole, other workbooks, or your computer.
Click on Close & Load to return to Excel and save your new file as .XLSX. The CSV was imported, and a table was created in Excel with filters on the headers.
Finally, you can also delete the query connection established during the process. This is a link between the original CSV file and the Excel file you created. Deleting the connection will keep your data table as it is but will prevent warnings appearing if you share the new Excel file. Right click on the query that appears in the right panel Query & Connections, then click delete and confirm.
